Recovering from trauma in Texas classrooms

Our goal is to help normalize the lives of the children impacted by Hurricane Harvey.

Trauma affects academic achievement, health, and behavior in school. Communities in Schools (CIS) works to provide purposeful prevention and intervention services, so that students and families will have the tools and information needed to help cope with their experiences and address issues that are currently affecting their ability to function and succeed in school. Using funding from the Rebuild Texas Fund, CIS provides case management services that focus on relief and recovery resource connection, helping students cope with trauma related to Hurricane Harvey, and financial assistance for basic needs.

Together, CIS and Rebuild Texas Fund are working to normalize the lives of the children, and helping them to recognize and cope with behaviors that can result from trauma.
