Helping the Smallest Texans Get Back to Normal

Many of the children impacted by Hurricane Harvey have lost two major pieces of their lives: their homes and their schools. School is the central place for children to learn, socialize, and live within a daily routine. After Hurricane Harvey, many schools and child care centers were destroyed – buildings flooded, walls came down, and supplies were ruined. Together with school districts, the Rebuild Texas Fund is creating temporary classrooms, providing teachers with laptops and other supplies, and rebuilding playgrounds for kids who need a safe place to play.

We are listening to and working with local administrators, teachers, parents, and children to understand the needs on the ground. Together, we are opening more schools and classrooms, while ensuring that temporary structures are available where schools are being rebuilt, and that teachers have the supplies they need to keep their classrooms running.
